Update Your Kitchen Now! Click Here for more ideas
If you are anything like me you probably spend far too much time in the kitchen – whether it be cooking, cleaning, snacking, shaking a cocktail, or organizing! Every few months I start to observe how I can better arrange a shelf, store a small appliance or even go through all the kitchen tools to replace or donate. Lately, I have been trying to organize drawers and edit out things I just don’t need anymore or have too many of. Factoring in – how similar to technology, changes, and updates to our most treasured items in the kitchen are needed too. Â
- Based on your preference, wipe out or vacuum using the brush attachment to each shelf and drawer in your kitchen. Over time crumbs, dust and food tend to accumulate, and removing items in the drawer can also serve as an accounting of everything you have.
- I like to sort piles under categories of trash, donate or keep. If I have too many tools I will either put them aside to donate or give them away dependent on the condition. I’d like to think I need five vegetable peelers, but in reality, they take up too much space and clutter the drawers when I can reserve the space for items I use the most.
- Accessorize. Recently, I added some floating shelves next to my pantry to add some character to an otherwise one-dimensional wall. I was able to display small items that I use on a regular basis and added charm and dimension. I have a collection of tea cups and honey pots that are both pleasing to the eye and functional. You can switch out the items seasonally, by utility, or even by theme. It’s a quick and inexpensive way to update.
- Shopping. Now, this may sound like I’m giving permission to shop for new things (although who doesn’t want an excuse to shop), but this tip is reserved for replacing items that are outdated in your kitchen. I have been looking for a replacement for my seven-year-old blender. It just doesn’t have the same quickness, as I usually have to use the tamper with every blend and some of the newer models have features that could be a great addition such as smoothie and/ or pulsing settings (similar to a food processor). The newer models even have attachments for single-use blends and small cups for grinding spices and nuts.
- Organizing. Whether it’s adding labels to your favorite jars or organizing your drawers to find items easier, I find organizing your kitchen every few months is the refresh we all need. I recently added bamboo insert organizers for my kitchen tools. I needed inserts for the miscellaneous items that usually get lost in the drawer. Labels can also be a great way to organize your pantry items and most used products. There are so many choices, but I tend to use my Brother label machine or my water-based Sharpie pen. I’ve even watched tutorials on how versatile labeling/ cutting machines can be! You really have so many choices.
