Most people start to explore their heritage in their early adulthood and have questions about their ancestry. Some rely on companies or start to ask the age-old questions – where did my ancestors come from and by what means did we come to be here? For our family, we were told by grandparents and parents of our predominantly Irish ancestry, in which, those findings were confirmed as we got older. My younger brother found that the siblings of our family were forty-eight percent Irish and fifty-two percent of other cultures. Such a fascinating way to learn of lineage going back generations. Coupled with my husband’s heritage of half Irish and half Czechoslovakia makes for interesting roots that should be further explored. It’s no wonder that our family has a deep connection to our European founders and how those families traveled and made their way over to the Americas. One day I would like to spend my days digging and chipping away at all the rich information about both our families.
It’s no wonder that the green, rolling hills coupled with seaside cliffs explain the beauty and wonder of what is now Ireland. Off the coast of England and Wales, lies the majestic island of Ireland near the North Atlantic ocean. The Emerald Isle or “lush green landscape” is both picturesque and tranquil. Day trips to explore the beautiful castles and cliffs of Moher in Dublin or maybe a sip of the infamous black and tan at the St. James Gate Brewery. Interested in some eats at the culinary capital of Cork or home of festival capital, Galway. It’s sure to entice your love for shops and pubs while listening to age-old music and melodic tunes. Just north of Ireland is the eponymous city of Belfast, home of the world’s largest Titanic exhibition. Interested in walking through medieval castles of Kilkenny or walking on seventeenth century streets of Derry∽Londonderry if your lucky! Synonymous for patron St. Patrick, Armagh city is entrenched with music, dance and theater or maybe seaside on Dingle Bay for observing whales and dolphins. Ireland is both enshrouded in green magic and Gaelic folklore with many places and landmarks to explore. Fill your camera roll and immerse yourself in this beautiful country for memories of a lifetime.
